So now you have a comprehensive checklist for gathering your photos and home movies. You have determined the scope and goals for your photo organizing plan by exploring the reasons why you want to do this project and you have created criteria for sorting your photos. One important step that you shouldn’t forget is to document your future plans for your photo collection.

Tip #10

Document Your Photo Legacy

Do you know where you would like your photos to go after you are gone? Like other valuable items, it’s important to specify what you would like to happen to your photo legacy.

  • Try this exercise. Write a will for your family photo collection. I know it seems premature to do this now but working through this process can help you determine which photos you would like to digitize and the process with which you would like to share certain items in your collection.

Documenting your photo legacy now will not only help with the planning stage of organizing your photos but it can help simplify things in the future.
