My interest in photos and photography began at an early age. In high school, I was the yearbook editor two years in a row. During college, I worked as a photo processor, managed photo labs, and established my own freelance graphic design business. As a young adult, I managed a cluster of FedEx Kinko’s copy centers where I learned to scan and design gift items like calendars and digital albums using customers’ photos.
As an IT professional, I have watched the dramatic changes that have taken place in image technology – from black and white negative processing and printing in darkrooms to the realm of digital photography. Although, it wasn’t until I inherited boxes of old photographs and 8mm movies from my grandmother that I realized this evolution has created a need for restoring and preserving precious photo and film memories.
Even though my grandmother had created her own system of organizing her photos, I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of photos and film she had amassed over the years. It didn’t help that my family didn’t write down where or when the photos were taken not to mention who the people in the photos were. All this knowledge was lost when my grandmother passed away. After organizing, scanning, and digitally sharing the photos with my brother, I realized that there must be other people out there with the same challenges that I faced. I created Gold Star Photo Solutions to help people share, care for, and enjoy their treasured photographs, movies, and memorabilia.
