You are off to a great start with a comprehensive checklist that includes:
- locations of where your photos are stored
- places where your digital photos are kept
- usernames and passwords to access photo websites where your pictures are uploaded
- an inventory of home movies and audio tapes
- a timeline to help you date your collection
Now it’s time to crunch some numbers. Don’t worry, no advanced math skills are required for this step.
Tip #6
Count The Items In Your Collection
How many photos do you have? Knowing the number of items in your collection can help you determine the scope of your project which will be important during the planning process of your project. Here’s a quick guide:
- a shoebox of photos = approximately 600 – 800
- 1 gigabyte (GB) of digital photo storage = approximately 560 JPGS
- an average photo album = approximately 200 photos
Don’t forget to include how many home movies you have and audio tapes. Get a complete count of all of your media that you mean to organize.
