Save Your Photos Month is a great time to begin gathering your photo and family movie collection together to organize, preserve, store, and share your special memories with friends and family.

When my grandmother passed away, I inherited her lifetime collection of family movies. This included 8mm, super 8, and 16mm films. Making family movies was not only her hobby but her passion. She captured all our vacations as well as holidays, celebrations, parades, snowstorms, school and sporting events, and every other moment in between. As a film maker, she encapsulated not only the special times in our lives but the stories behind the images.

We spent the better part of 6 months digitizing boxes of those wonderful, family movies and thought that we had converted all the movie memories in her legacy collection, but last weekend we discovered one more reel labeled, “Disneyland 1972.”

I had nearly forgotten about our family’s summer vacation to Los Angeles. As I watched those flickering images of mom, dad, grandma, and my brother, I was transported back to 1972.

This was my grandmother’s precious gift to me and my family – beloved memories.
